A Drift

2014 — Music player, headphones

In A Drift, participants take turns leading and following, while everyone listens to a shared soundtrack using headphones. The experience can vary in time from 60 minutes to potentially very long durations.

The experience of A Drift is both one of strong, individual experience and shared social situation. The number of participants can vary from 2-15 participants, even if larger (or even personal) drifts are of course possible permutations of the method.

A Drift was originally developed by myself together with my friends Thom Kiraly and Nika Dahlberg-Melin and has been featured at many urban play festivals around the globe. One of the most active communities around A Drift is Berlin-based Drift Club run by Thom Kiraly and Sebastian Quack, with contributions from a growing number of drift enthusiasts worldwide.

West-East Sprint

2013 — Graphic symbols painted on ground

Using the quarter-mile (~400 meter) sprint famous from drag racing and other race car contexts, as part of the GICBA Extended 2013 program I draw a number of symbols to outline start and end positions for running the same distance, making the city more accessible, and replacing the fixation with automative transport with the more natural movement of ones own legs.
